Samenvatting

This research explores the use of modest economic incentives to increase safety belt usage among automobile occupants at a senior high school. Effectiveness of the treatment was measured by monitoring observed belt usage before, during and after the educational campaign and incentive program. Results show that the shoulder belt usage rate increased from 21% in the baseline phase to 28-29% in the educational phase to 46-54% in the incentive phase.
