Samenvatting

This paper presents the purpose and use of the Gateway Traveler Information System. The Gateway Traveler Information System is the key ITS element involved in travel data collection and distribution within the GCM Corridor. The system collects dynamic and static transportation data from the distributed transportation management systems throughout the corridor. Via compilation and coordination of this data, the Gateway TIS has created a corridor-wide source of transportation information. The paper presents the use of the Gateway from the public's perspective including travelers, information service providers, and commercial transportation system operators, and from the agency perspective. In the future, the Gateway will also serve as the means to share incident information, and control and monitoring of field devices such as Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) and Variable Message Signs (VMS) between various agencies.
