The use of integrated land use and transport models. The cases of Sao Pasulo, Brazil and Bilbao, Spain.

This paper describes a methodology for land use and transport planning. It is argued that due to the complexity of the urban system, sophisticated computer models may help decision- makers and professionals to plan their cities. The first section describes the approach. In the second sec- tion examples of the use of the system in practice are described. The results of testing alternative policies are discussed, comparing model predictions before the policy was implemented with actual results five years later.
