Samenvatting

The use of laser scanner for vehicle detection and classification is a new means that can be used in conventional single lanes facilities with several benefits over conventional technologies: Lane is cleared from verticalobstacles and ground intrusive appliances, performances are much less sensitive to environmental changes and maintenance work is dramatically reduced. TECSIDEL real cases show that these goals can be effectively attained provided that a skilful implementation is done. Critical issues are addressed: Vehicle detection and separation, direction of travel detection and vehicle class characteristics measurement. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
