The purpose of the project is to test and evaluate an existing Route Guidance System (RGS) for use in cars. The evaluation comprises 15 elderly drivers (65 and over) and is meant to describe the use of the system for about 6 months. The evaluation is oriented towards manageability and user acceptance. The test group's use of the RGS is surprisingly high. The elderly drivers show improvement in understanding the construction of the system and also improve their ability to manage the system after having used it for some time. However, according to the elderly drivers themselves, the safety effects and usefulness of an RGS are more doubtful. The system is not experienced as reliable in all situations. Contributing to this is probably the fact that the system in its present design still being in a development phase and being based on a limited map. The overall conclusion is that older people seem to have good prospects for employing and managing a Route Guidance System after a relatively short period of use. (A)
