Samenvatting

In order to face the problem of enhanced accident rates of novice drivers and to familiarise all drivers with new in-vehicle telematics aids, a new driver education and assessment concept is proposed by the Consortium of TRAINER project, which is co-funded by DG VII of the EC. According to the approach of TRAINER, theoretical training is supported by an interactive multimedia training tool, to familiarise novice drivers with the basic principles of driving tasks and to provide a better understanding of risks. Practical training on the other hand is improved by the use of cost-efficient semi-dynamic driving simulators, to provide the drivers with better insight of manoeuvring and control tasks under adverse environmental conditions and of interaction with vulnerable road users. The measured data will be captured by a normative driver behaviour database to allow monitoring of driver training and statistical analysis. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
