Samenvatting

The use of advanced travel information systems (ATIS) in making recreational trips was investigated. A short literature review of previous researchinto travel information and location choice is presented and used to develop a theoretical framework for further analysis. An internet survey was conducted among visitors to a theme park in the Netherlands. A questionnaire was used to obtain information on the behaviour of travellers in retrieving and using information and to identify the factors affecting the searchfor and use of information. The relationships between information use andlocation choice were examined. The motivations for use of travel information were determined. It was shown that the participants' main interest wasin planning the trip carefully (motive efficiency) and in obtaining as much fun as possible before actually going to the theme park (motive interest).
