In this paper we describe the usage of a transit vehicle information system that delivers estimated departure times for a large transit fleet by way of internet-enabled mobile devices. While a number of experimental and commercial products are beginning to offer such a service this paper reports the actual usage by patrons of a large transit fleet. We describe how the physical restrictions of mobile devices (e.g., screen size and input options) affect user interaction and data presentation, as well as presenting a comparison of wireless and wire-line usage. The system is hosted on the World Wide Web and the wired version has been used nearly 18 million times.
