A system that uses automotive telematics module data for aiding emergency personnel either en route to an automobile accident or monitoring is developed. The framework for such a system is laid out including examples of various data sources available in new and existing telematics systems and current available databases. Many new and currently available types of sensor data along with bussing structures are discussed. Also discussed are mapping and real-time graphics along with modeling issues. Finally, an accurate working prototype database is constructed for a 25-square-mile region of Palatine/Elk Grove Village, Illinois to demonstrate system feasibility.
