This report focusses on the development of passenger traffic on the county railways since 1990. It is mainly based on data collected by means of a questionnaire. Since spring 1990, most county railways have experienced an increase in the number of passengers. In some cases the number has more than doubled. There are also examples of longer average journey length, indicating that the number of passenger kilometres has increased more than the number of passengers. Following the coordination of train and bus traffic by the RTAs, the total use of public transport has also increased in certain corridors, in some cases public transport has increased its market share. Investments have been made in the infrastructure and they have made it possible to shorten the journey times.
