Following a decrease in investments in infrastructure during the last years the increase in productivity has stagnated. This paper tries to outline the relationships between marginal investments in the road network or in the industry and profitability. Calculations for different regions are presented showing, e.g. that an investment of 10 m SEK in the Gothenburgh region road network could replace an investment of 13 m SEK in the region's industry. Since an investment in the road infrastructure lasts longer - about twice as long as industrial investments - the advantages are even more obvious. Calculations are also presented showing how large an investment in the different regions road network must be in order to increase industrial incomes with 2%. It is also concluded that for the investigated OECD coutries, a road capacity increase of 10% means a work productivity increase of 2 to 7%.
