Validation results of traffic flow modelling on linear motorways.

Two motorway traffic flow simulation models, called SIMAUT and META, have been validated and compared on 3 motorway sites. The paper describes:- the models, the sites and data; and the results. Both models demonstrate high accuracy and potential for use in traffic management operation. Their use is being further investigated for surveillance, prediction, control and aid-to-decision purposes.
