Variable Message Signs (VMS) are used to provide dynamic information likespeed limit under different conditions. As speed is an important contributor to road accidents in urban and rural areas, present study focuses on how well traffic advisory information provided through Variable Message Signs will help different motorists to divert from potentially dangerous conditions. An experimental study was conducted after installing VMS boards onthe urban section of National Highway-2 (NH-2) to evaluate behavior of motorists for the provided information through Variable Message Signs. Analysis of Variance Model (ANOVA) is used to study how different motorists will perceive provided information and also to find the effect of VMS on driver speed behavior on the urban stretch. An opinion survey was carried out in urban section of NH-2 to understand the awareness of Variable Message Signs among the motorists.
