Samenvatting

An arterial intersection control system using a variable phase sequence, progression optimization program has been developed, implemented and tested on a system of four multi-phase intersections along a major thoroughfare. Some 100 detectors were obtained using a interface that bypassed the local controller allowing a computer direct access to the signal lights. Results of the data analysis are presented showing an improvement in the quality of traffic flow.
