Samenvatting

The papers in this volume were included on the program for the 76th TRB Annual Meeting held in January 1997 in Washington, D.C. The papers in this volume were presented at the following three sessions: 1. Reducing Damage to Low-Volume Roads by Using Reduced Tire Pressure, organized by Maureen A. Kestler, U.S. Army Engineer Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory; 2. Flowable Fill and Cement Stabilized Bases; and 3. Stabilization of Road Bases and Dust Control Using Chemical Additives, organized by Braja Das, California State University at Sacramento. Low traffic volume roads, such as farm to market, forest roads, and county roads, generally are unsurfaced gravel roads that receive repeated loading from heavy vehicles, resulting in damage to the riding surface. Significant research on how to reduce such damage has been conducted and the first three papers in this record describe the findings from implementation of the reduced tire pressure technology. The following two papers report on flowable fill, a new material that has been used more often by transportation agencies in recent years. The next eight papers are on stabilization of pavement layers and control of dust on unsurfaced roads with application of chemicals. The last two papers focus en stabilization of slopes on roadway corridors. (A)
