Samenvatting

This deliverable describes the development of a new tool which can be used for exploration of the effects of tutoring messages for a range of on-site and in-car enforcement systems. The studies reported here using the Animated Interactive Driving Environment (AIDE) have yielded a number of potentially important findings relating to use of such systems. Two are particularly worthy of note. Firstly, Variable Message Signs (VMS) showing the numbers of drivers not violating the current speed limit were found to reduce speeding. Secondly, the AIDE investigations of in-car systems demonstrate clearly the futility of using in-car systems for speed violations unless the prevailing local pseed limit is available to the system.
