Samenvatting

Speed control cushions have been used by local highway authorities as traffic calming devices on roads where extensive use of standard speed control humps was considered unsuitable because the roads were used as bus routes or were designated access routes for emergency vehicles. This report gives details of vehicle noise and overall traffic noise surveys carried out in 1993 alongside different types of speed control cushions located in the City of York. The objective of the study were to compare maximum vehicle noise levels at, and between, different types and layouts of speed cushion and to assess the change in both vehicle and overall traffic noise levels following the introduction of the speed cushions. the speed cushions. The report describes the experimental method used and gives a summary of the results obtained and the conclusions reached. (A)
