Samenvatting

Communication between vehicles is believed to have a great potential in improving the safety of traffic and assisting the driver. Vehicle Inter-Communication makes Cooperative Driving possible. Applications such as Intelligent Cruise Control, Intelligent Manoeuvring Control, Intelligent Intersection Control, Medium Range Preinformation and Emergency Warning have been analyzed, and the communication global requirements are available. This paper presents the views of the VIC (vehicle intercommunication) project on the Architecture and perspectives for Implementation of Vehicle Inter-Communication, showing the necessary steps for implementation, and in what order the applications could become available. The Communication Architecture suitable for an early implementation of the first necessary applications is presented, together with the current views on the possible evolutions and especially the integration with the IRTE.
