Samenvatting

A statistical analysis has been made of the accident rates in the Brisbane metropolitan area, in terms of both casualty and property damage, and broken down by type of vehicle (private of commercial), category of driver (age groups, sex) and whether or not the vehicle came from within the area. The accident rate has been expressed in actual mileage performance, as provided by a daily reporting of vehicle movements by a number of randomly selected drivers in the state. In general there appears to be a decreasing accident rate with increasing age, for all categories of drivers. There is a wide gap in accident rate between the teenage group of driver and the next age group. The ratio male rate: female rate for the same travelling distance, drops from about 3 below 20 years of age to approx. 2 in the following age groups.
