Samenvatting

This paper considers the manual control issues associated with the use of hands-free mobile telephones. It compares in-transit use of three telephone types: full hands-free kit, portable hands-free kit and standard mobile phone. A task analysis was undertaken for each telephone. Implications of the differences between systems on driver behaviour are discussed. Conclusions indicate that the key differences exist in assembly and disassembly procedures, interaction with other in-vehicle systems and frequency of manual operations during use. (A*)
