A vehicle motion simulator (VEMOSIM), which is based on one of the basic laws of physics, namely Force = Mass * Acceleration (F = m*a) - in other words on vehicle kinematics - is an ideal tool for analysis of fuel and emission amounts, operating costs, driving time, traffic safety etc. The vehicle motion simulator based on kinematics uses individual vehicles and thus can take into account the dynamics of traffic. Thus it produces except motion also directly energy consumption, emission amounts and many other quantities derived from vehicle motion. Conventional simulation models are based only on average values and stable, homogeneous traffic flows (like water or electric stream) which can not take into account individual features of different items (vehicle/road). The developed VEMOSIM tool, its features and the basic input data needed for simulation and results of some applications are described. The tool is common and it can be used also for many analysing and optimisation purposes. These are e.g. selecting engine type of the vehicle used in different conditions, analysing the effects on energy consumption, emission amounts, transport power, etc. of speed limits, geometry of roads, traffic signals, and also for analysing energy consumption and emissions of trains as well as analysing traffic safety, etc. The VEMOSIM can be used in transport planning support, technical assessment, evaluation, road and railway transport, freight and passenger transport and it represents innovative research and new technology.
