Samenvatting

In-vehicle navigation systems have proliferated recently. Such systems should be designed so that drivers can use them without fixing their eyes continuously on the display. In JAMA's (Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, inc.) "Safety Guideline on In-vehicle Display Systems", complex switch operations are prohibited. In this regard, a quantitative analysis was conducted and a method developed which can be applied in the design process: (1) Investigate visual glance behavior of drivers when operating navigation systems while driving to determine a judgment index for the limitation on visual capability; and (2) Develop a prediction method for the judgment index based on design factors (type of operation, number of buttons and number of operations).
