Samenvatting

This paper is about the capacity to increase the density of the city in the influential zone of a public transportation line in The Hague: how many houses or equivalent other buildings can be added net in a way, which is regarded to have a high visual and residential quality? This is the central question of the project VELOV, which is presented in this paper. De densification capacity is roughly derived from three global urban and architectural designs. The designs have been carried out for one case corridor. The result is that substantially more building volume can be added net than the current municipal plans envisage. The interest for densification has a planning background, which is the idea that quality improvements of PT are difficult to earn back by additional passengers, as the cost coverage criteria have become more difficult. One solution is to generate additional passengers by urban densification along PT lines. (Author/publisher)
