Telecommunication and other forms of traffic show a strong relationship. In earlier times the exchange of information converged completely with physical traffic, both used the same network and the same infrastructure. Today telecommunication has its own network, but the correlation with the mobility of persons and freight is still present. There is also an analogy between the control of physical traffic flow and information processing. This correlation and analogy is elaborated by a stratified model for the exchange of communication and freight, based on the current stratified organisation of communication systems in the telecommunication. This model has the possibility to define some aspects of the problems in transport. Some more general hypotheses of transport management can therefor be formulated.
