The Hague municipality's traffic circulation plan: its road safety effects. The purpose of the European 6th framework project INTARESE is to develop a methodology for assessing the health risks of policy options. One of the policy areas for which some case studies will be performed is traffic and transport; this is also the case in the Netherlands. The Dutch case study concerns the health effects of the The Hague traffic circulation plan (VCP) and will be carried out by a consortium consisiting of, among others, the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) and the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS). The VCP is intended to make The Hague's inner city more attractive for living, working and shopping. To this end part of the city centre is turned into a car-free zone. The consortium wants to answer the question of what health changes may affect The Hague's inhabitants as a consequence of the VCP. A change in road safety is one of the investigated health effects. SWOV was commissioned by PBL to investigate the VCP's road safety effect in the year 2010.
