The paper deals with an investigation with regard to the desired level of lighting residential streets as carried out by a working group of the Committee on public lighting of the Netherlands Institution on Illuminating Engineering. The recommended level of lighting amounts to Eh= 2 lx. The investigation also deals with a different classification of roads and streets in residential areas.
