Special attention is paid to the way in which a large refinery in the Netherlands attempts to reduce car use among its employees in the commuter traffic. In this context a number of considerations have played a role, including improvement of the accessibility of the refinery taking into account interests of business economics. The characteristics of the refinery are also given. The refinery is participating in a pilot project of the Dutch Ministry of Transport, of which the aim is to reduce the number of vehicle kilometres by at least 20%. In order to get more insight into the way in which the employees go to their work and to inventory their preferences for alternatives to their current transport mode, a questionnaire was held. Attention is also paid to the parts of the transport plan.
