Samenvatting

This article describes the use of a vibrating accelerator pedal to warn drivers to slow down, enabling considerable savings in fuel bills. The device is computerised and combines measurements from several sources to help it judge when the car needs to slow down. Measurements include global positioning, speed, gradient and road curve, and vehicle detection radar. A small actuator under the pedal causes the pedal to vibrate. Vibration alert was chosen because drivers react faster to this than to warning lights.
