Samenvatting

The development of drink driving countermeasures in the state of Victoria, Australia is examined. It is shown that there is no clear evidence that any of these measures has resulted in any long term reduction in road trauma. Possible reasons for the ineffectiveness of the legislation are presented. It is suggested that environmental countermeasures could be more costeffective than legislative ones.
