Samenvatting

The Virginia Department of Highways has used the bituminous open-graded, porous friction course (PFC) since 1972 to resurface accident prone locations and roadways needing routine maintenance resurfacing. A before and after accident study of one location revealed a significant decrease of wet pavement accidents after paving with the PFC. Skid tests have revealed good to excellent skid resistance on all sections of the PFC.
