Samenvatting

This study is based upon previous experimental work on driving with limited (tunnel) viewing. When drivers looked through small apertures, they were found to use lane markers and road boundaries to guide themselves. Apparently, lane markers and the road edge provide major guidance information to the driver on the open road. It therefore becomes important to insure these road features are clearly distinguishable, even under adverse conditions of night and fog. The present paper presents a preliminary analysis of the visibility of road features in fog. Calculations are presented of the delectability of actual lane markers. The method may also be applied to lane markers of other contrast, and under other conditions of fog.
