Samenvatting

The major points discussed in this paper are: 1. The difference between light adaptation and dark adaptation has some serious consequences with regard to night driving. 2. The visual system's ability to resolve fine detail is not as good when there is motion of the target on the retina. 3. There is a certain degree of suppression of visual information for a brief period of time as the eye moves. 4. One can show by means of recording where people look that they naturally seek out areas of information.
