Samenvatting

The interaction between exogenous and endogenous control of visual selection are discussed. Theoretical considerations are discussed in relation to specific applications of the principles to selection in the road environment. An eclectic model of visual search during driving is discussed. The main results of several laboratory studies investigating top- down regulated search are summarized. The results provide evidence against the common idea that conspicuous objects automatically attract attention.
