Samenvatting

There have not been many studies on pedestrian flows at railway stations. Some examples show that there is a need to re-design the pedestrian areas in stations. There must be sufficient space in stations to accommodate the large flows of pedestrians at rush hours or at crowded events, at an acceptable quality for the travellers. There is also the problem of locating small shops and other facilities close by the pedestrian flow. The purpose of this paper is to draw attention to the problems of pedestrian flows at public transport nodes. Pedestrians are the main users of these nodes, nodes are part of the network and the whole chain of movement. Attention to all of these elements is necessary; the chain (of movement) is as strong as the weakest link.
