Samenvatting

An earlier study reported that Volvo XC60s fitted with City Safety, a low-speed collision avoidance technology, had lower than expected loss frequencies for property damage liability (-27 percent), bodily injury liability (-51 percent) and collision (-22 percent). Updated results for the XC60 as well as initial results for the Volvo S60 confirm that City Safety is reducing losses substantially, although the effects are somewhat smaller than in the initial XC60 report. In the new study, property damage liability loss frequency was estimated to be 15 percent lower than relevant control vehicles for the XC60 and 16 percent lower for the S60. Collision frequencies were reduced by an estimated 20 percent for the XC60 and 9 percent for the S60. Both vehicles also showed reductions in collision claim severity and reductions in overall losses for collision and property damage liability. Under bodily injury liability, frequency was 33 percent lower for the XC60 and 18 percent lower for the S60. (Author/publisher)
