Samenvatting

For many elderly drivers one of the most difficult tasks is to drive in darkness. This is proven in empirical studies, both as a problem experienced by elderly drivers themselves, as well as in official traffic accident data. Many elderly people have problems in perceiving relevant stimuli because of poor visibility conditions and poor visual acuity. A system that offers the potential for aiding vision under poor ambient light conditions could be of value to older drivers. Such a system is Ultraviolet light (UV-light) developed by ULTRALUX AB, a corporation owned partly by Volvo. Cars with UV-light were made available to the EDDIT project for 7 days of trials in November 1993.
