This study summarizes, discusses, and evaluates various before and after studies. The study investigates six locations in the Netherlands where junctions were replaced by roundabouts. The aim of the three observation methods used is to get an insight into roundabout safety. These methods are: (1) speed measurements; (2) conflict observations; and (3) observations of how priority was given to traffic at these roundabouts. The study evaluates both the traffic flow at, and capacity of the research locations. For this purpose, the following variables are registered: (i) traffic intensities; (ii) road users' `crossing times'; and (iii) number of waiting vehicles. In addition, the direction indicator use by car drivers at the locations is noted.
