Samenvatting
In Amsterdam a study has been carried out on possible relations between urban developments and public transport travel demand. This was done for the period 1973-1981/82. Demographic factors have only a limited influence. More important is the availability of frequent tram and bus services as a canvassing element. Higher fares, especially for season ticket holders, and the introduction of a new pay-as-you-ride ticket (the so-called strippenkaart) caused considerable ticket substitution with negative financial effects.
