Samenvatting
The use of lanes for certain kinds of traffic, for instance freight traffic, is becoming increasingly popular. On the Dutch A50 motorway, between Ewijk and Valburg, a special traffic lane will be constructed. It became became clear during the preparations that a lot of unexpected difficulties had to be solved. Some of the backgrounds of special traffic lanes are presented. This paper describes: (1) which freight traffic flows are important; (2) the importance of regional developments; and (3) the conditions which have been used to make the construction plans. This project will serve as an example for other freight traffic lanes in the Netherlands. (A)
