Samenvatting

Design guidelines for the pedestrian access mode to suburban light rail transit (LRT) stations are not as well developed as design guidelines for feeder bus and park-and-ride. The main focus of this paper is to show how far people are willing to walk to access LRT stations in Calgary. The paper compares the walking distances of LRT stations with the walking distances of express bus stops which served the same corridors as LRT prior to the opening of the LRT systems. The information in this paper should provide planners with a quantifiable basis for developing design guidelines for pedestrian access to LRT stations. (A)
