Samenvatting

The object of this report is to develop warrants for the installation of pedestrian facilities for the guidance of road authorities in the decisions relating to the provision and location of these facilities. The report is divided into five main parts as follows: PART 1- Review of existing position and establishment of the need for warrants. PART 2- Review of available information relating to pedestrian warrants used abroad. PART 3- Survey of existing pedestrian facilities. PART 4- Establishment of warrants. PART 5- Provision and siting of pedestrian crossings. A series of design charts for various urban traffic operations is presented in which the minimum and maximum warrants for each type facility are expressed on terms of pedestrian and vehicular traffic volumes for different road widths.
