It is not possible to run a transport company without good and timely information regarding the purchase of transport. Until 1979, there was sufficient insight into the purchase of transport, but since then the national ticket system was introduced and the governmental subsidy decreased. Now the governmental subsidy is calculated by the kilometers per passenger. By means of an extended way of countings by hand, it is possible to calculate the kilometers per passenger, but studies on the level of each transport line are still necessary. Using some calculation methods the number of passengers, is translated into kilometers per passenger. Besides the knowledge of the number of kilometers per passenger, the model gives insight into: (a) the costs and benefits; (b) the number of passengers per transport vehicle; and (c) the economic efficiency of the transport lines. The model can also calculate different scenarios.
