Samenvatting

Some research on vehicle splash and spray are summarized with respect to reduced visibility caused by mud and water thrown up on the vehicle 's windscreen. One of the most effective ways of reducing spray is to reduce vehicle speed on wed roads. Spray can also be reduced by making the road surface pervious. It is very effective in its early life but after being subjected to heavy traffic there is a certain amount of compaction and the voids tend to silt up so that after a few years its effectiveness is reduced. Results of research on vehicle design improvements to reduce splash and spray are also described.
