Samenvatting

The urban motorways in Sydney are illustrated to illustrate the hypothesis that cities are spatial arrangements which reflect and reinforce the power relationships of a society. Reference is made to the division between poor and wealthy residential areas, schooling and the provision of hospitals, and in particular to the building of motorways through low income areas to provide commuter facilities for the wealthier suburbs.
