Samenvatting

Alcohol involvement in fatal traffic crashes has decreased 30 percent over the past twelve years but still accounts for over 40 percent of traffic fatalities. Other drugs are also a significant problem in fatal crashes but nowhere near the extent of alcohol. New impaired driving goals have been set in the USA that will take bold new strategies to realize. New research in strategic advertising, alternative transportation, enforcement procedures and target populations hold promise to form the foundation for these new strategies. (A)
