Samenvatting

Discussed evidence to support the use of safety helmets by cyclists is of the 300 cyclists killed on the roads in the United Kingdom each year, approximately two thirds died as a result of head injury. The Australian experience suggested that the use of helmets could greatly reduce such deaths by head injury. Reasons why cyclists don't use safety helmets in Britain where also discussed: cost, appearance, lack of availability of good helmets and the absence of advice on fitting and usage have all been quoted.
