Samenvatting
The purpose of this paper is: First, to define briefly second collision as they occur in current production passenger cars. Second, to define those barrier impact speeds which cannot be exceeded, given, on one hand, specific physiological limits to which the occupants can be subjected and based, on the other hand, on current full-size passenger cars dimensions and proportions. Third, to indicate how, under the conditions defined above, the second collision could be eliminated, hence a question mark in the title of our paper. Finally, based on the concepts outlined which do eliminate the second collision, we plan to recommend specific biomechanical investigations in support of future hardware development.
