The problem was investigated by: a) analysing driver's responses to written questions, b) observations of motor vehicles. The results obtained suggest that in the field investigated frequent behaviour errors can be encountered (e.g. lights being switched on too late on account of the given contrasts, usage of position lights instead of dipped beam); frequently a lack of critical judgement on the part of the driver with regard to his own behaviour has been observed. The time range between uniform driving without lights switched on and uniform driving with lights switched on was found to be constant under comparable conditions, ranging from 25 to 30 minutes.
