Wind blows generally stronger on high, exposed roads in flat surroundings such as on brides, dykes and dames, and can therefore hinder traffic. The hindrance can be increased by lorries and buses because, while overtaking, they cut off crosswinds and produce their own air displacement. Other vehicles which are sensitive to wind, can be brought off their course by the combination of wind, wind cut, off, and air displacement. Estimations are made of the amount of sideways deviation for various driving and overtaking speeds. The possibilities of limiting the sideways deviation during strong winds to acceptable levels are temporary restrictions on overtaking and reduction of driving speeds.
