Samenvatting

Internet and World Wide Web technologies are becoming omnipresent in office and home environment. It is quite safe to state that Internet/WWW based service concept will become popular also inside cars and transport telematic environment in the near future. Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) was designed by WAP Forum to provide Internet, global wireless application environment and transport protocol for applications in various mobile environments. WAP supports a wide scale of devices with a limited number of keys, small display, low bandwidth and insecure and unreliable communication channel. WAP is also designed to be bearer and mobile system independent. It is possible to build a great scale of different transport telematic services based on WAP protocol and application environment. Even now a lot of different transport telematic services are available in WWW. WAP makes it possible and easy to bring these services from WWW to the WAP compliant mobile terminals. In this article after some general issues of Wireless application protocol, the usage of WAP for telematic services is described. (A*)
